How many here have used Word Press?
If you have used WordPress, how was your experience?
Would you recommend another piece of software instead?

I've used wordpress a few times over the years, but the last version I used was 2.7 IIRC. Great bit of software, especially when it comes to ease of use. It's free, easy to use, loads of templates and plugins available - great :D

Drupal is another good bit of software, but it's a bit more complex. It has better database features though, so it can be handy for larger sites.

I use wordpress for the two sites I own (www.thewaytoyahuweh.com & www.witsolutions.co.uk), and it is absolutely fantastic.

Been using it now since about 2.1, and never had any trouble with it.

Best CMS I've used, and possibly the best one anyway, IMHO :)

My webhost Dreamhost actually comes with a load of 'one-click installs' including WordPress, so setup was a doddle. My webpanel automatically updates wordpress and as such it is so easy to get to grips with.

I use it on http://stuffbynick.com and with the right theme and page setup some great things can be achieved.

Complete noob here, I wasn't aware of the CMS (content management system) category.

After a quick search, I see that both WordPress and Drupal are in the top three listings.

Top 50 Free Open Source Content Management System
Looks like I started with the right one to begin with. I'm currently checking out WordPress 3.2, and so far I like it. However I have no experience with any of the others for reference either.

The idea I have in mind is to start a Blog with links to a Forum (phpBB) within the same server and DB. Basically the blog would be a frontend with the most relevant and recent topics. Who knows once it's all said and done the Blog maybe all I'm really looking for.

I work in a language school and we have a website built with Wordpress for the teachers to use for sharing ideas and discussions.

Dead easy to use, you don't seem to need 50years computing experience to be able to get it running. I set the initial site up and then the teachers, who are not IT experts, got on with it.
