Will laptop CDROM drives fit Small Form Factor PCs?

Got a Dell Optiplex SFF PC but no CDROM drive. I can get one second hand for
£55 which is more than the base unit cost me. Looking at the thing I have a
suspicion that a laptop cdrom will fit but I can't find any pictures of the
underside of a laptop cdrom to see how they attach to whatever laptop they
    fit.

At the end of the day I'm quite prepared to Araldite the bugger into place
but I'd rather be able to remove it without a hammer and chisel in future.
I'm aware that I'd need a converter on the back to use the standard ide
    cable and atx psu connector.

Has anyone tried this, does anyone know if it fits properly or does anyone
know where I could economically obtain a refurb? Please don't suggest Dell
as I'd rather slit my wrists than talk to their customer service/tech
    support again.

i think all laptop cdroms are different sizes and each have different
connections, so attaching it to the computer and converting it to fit an ide
    cable is impossible.

Out of the 2 IBM laptops, both cdrom drives have different connections and
    are of different sizes
