    SSIA. TIA for replies.

  2. I use the only newsreader available (well, the only one that is even barely
tolerable): NewsTap. The server is Eternal September, the same one I use
    on my Mac.

Yeah, but this is the iPad newsgroup, so the strong implication is that he
was asking about newsreaders on the iPhone.

    Actually, he explicitly said "iPad"

I have to disagree with the description of NewsTap.

I find it not even close to tolerable.

But that's OK, because Lord knows I do NOT need to spend more time on
    Usenet than I already do!

And the only good thing I can say about Google Groups
is that it is not NewsTap.

I like to take a few groups with me when I'm away from the laptop(even if
it's just my recliner a few feet away) so I follow 4 here via NewsTap. It
may not be great, but I have yet to learn of a better one.

  13. It's one of the few things Google has done with usenet that I like. It
browses fine. Don't need to download Newstap. Just bookmark fave groups
in Safari. Long-winded threads might put people over their data caps,
but that's not Google's fault. If a thread nears 500 posts it probably
ain't worth keeping up with anyway.

I was forced to use it temporarily when my ISP dropped Usenet until I found
    eternalseptember, then dropped it immediately.

  15. What I mean by use differs from your meaning. I would never post from
that cesspit :) But it suffices for Safari bookmarked browsing.

I use Newstap on my iPad and Giganews for my server.

I don't seem to have the problems with Newstap that others do; if I want to
do something more than I can or care to on my iPad, I use my PC -- using
the much-reviled-by-others Windows Live Mail -- yes, I have tried others,
didn't like them, and no, I have not tried *every available reader*, only a
few, but all those wonderful capabilities & improvements come with their
own complications, complexities, and problems learning to use them.

If someone is so superior they must kill file anyone using WLM or Newstap,
well, I think I can live with that. I've usually found over the years that
the really helpful people aren't so snotty.

I've used Forte's Agent as both my Usenet and email client on my PC for many
years. I don't know if it's still the best, but old habits are hard to break.

I use Agent on my Win 7 PC, having switched from Outlook Express when I
finally moved from XP last year. On my iPad, I use NewsTap, and in some
ways I actually prefer it to Agent or OE.

Thanks, Michelle. That's what I use on my iPod Touch. At first the UI
had me scratching my head but once I got the hang of it I found it an
efficient way to read newsgroups on that device.

I asked the question about the iPad for a friend and didn't know that
NewsTap was available on that device too.

I look forward to the day when I use Google for NOTHING. YMMV.
