Vista Permissions

  1. Running Home premium.

In XP when you view a streaming video, the file is often kept in the Temp
Internet Files, and can be found and copied.

In Vista, if I do a search in user\local and include non indexed and system
files I can find the .flv that I want. But although the file is in the
Search Results, I can't select it nor highlight it. I can't therefore find
    the path nor copy it.

There were several places in Local that "access is denied". I have managed
to "Take Ownership", and access these folders, but I still can't find the
..flv that is found by the deep search.

    Any ideas?

    Regards
    Doug

Just had a look on my test box.
    The path was
    C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
I was able to navigate there and copy without problem

  4. Hi Fred,

Yes I can navigate to that folder all OK, but the .flv isn't there.

The next thing I tried was to look in C:\users\name\AppData\Local\Temporary
Internet Files. This is where I had to "Take Ownership" There are heaps of
Temp Internet files in there, as well. But I still can't find the flv that
is found in a deep search. At
    http://s174.photobucket.com/albums/w91/le0pard32/?action=view&current=FLV.jpg I
have uploaded the search results. It shows several.flv files including the
one I want. If I right click on any of these no menu appears. And I can't
    see the path to them.

I'm beginning to think that the search is finding some sort of ghost left
behind. ie a file that was there, but not now. (Vista has sort of ghost
copies, but I thought that wasn't in the Home Prem version)

    Regards

The biggest pain in Vista is bloody permissions. Anyway just take control of
your whole hard drive in My Computer
