For just some really simple video editing, the Windows Movie Maker will allow you to import AVI's and many other popular video files and add text and take out chunks of video in a really simple manner.
    Have fun

    Yeap.

When you need more professional tools, look at Adobe Premiere or Pinnacle Studio.

The Windows Movie Maker asks me to input the serial number for Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition, which i do not have.

That shouldn't happen. What steps did you take to get this? Have you upgrade MM from Windows Update? There's a newer version.

Oh wait. Do you have XP? It comes with XP Home and XP Pro, but you may have to purchase a plus pack for older OS's.
I'm sorry, I'm just so used to using XP I assume everyone to have it.
