My friend bought this computer a while back and is having difficulties gaming on even very old games. He laggs on simple games like Counter Strike 1.6.

I told him that he should upgrade his computer.

Here is his computer with all of its specifications on newegg:

I told him it would be best to upgrade his memory and to get an actual graphics card. Especially since he is running Vista at 1GB and his Intel onboard chipset eats at 256mb so he is really on less then that.

I found him what I believe is some good ram:

2GB at $29 dollars doesn't seem to bad to me. Plus Corsair is a pretty reliable brand.

As far as graphics card are concerned, I have no idea about the PCI-Express cards. My graphics card is an AGP card. Can anyone recommend a good graphics card that will get the most bang for your buck. My friend would like to play games like Counter Strike Source and Counter Strike 1.6 with a good FPS.

Overall for this upgrade we have set a budget of 100-120. My friend said he will go up to $200 but he is pretty young so I told him we could probably keep it lower. Thanks

    Good plan.

For a system like that, though, I'd highly recommend switching to XP if it's used for gaming purposes. The performance increase will most likely be considerable.

Hmm well he doesn't have a spare copy of XP. The computer came with Vista. Also can anyone recommend a good budget PCI-Express card?
