I was on some site streaming a sports game and managed to get one of those fake security/antivirus spyware programs popping up from the system tray every 20 seconds telling me avgidsmonitor.exe is infected or comhost.exe is infected and do I want to star the antivirus.

I've restarted into safe mode and run

    Malwarebytes
    Mcafee stinger
    Avg

And nothing has turned up. I am due a reformat but have exams for he next few weeks and don't have time to waste on formatting/reinstalling/backing up etc. Do you guys have any suggestions for me? One day I will learn...

    Hi karansaraf

Do you have any restore points?

I've had this happen a few times and a restore point fixed everything.

    Yeah, thanks clifford.

A combination of Spybot, system restore and editing my startup ended up working.

    So annoying!
