spam email

    how do you know where spam email comes from? is there anyway to know what websites will sell on your email address?

    some websites have a disclaimer hidden in their TOS, often you will find its worded as 'you are hereby granting us permission to pass on your contact details to related companies' or something about similar offeres / promotions.

    also if you have an e-mail adress on a website somewhere, spambots traul and find these e-mail patterns, then compile them into a database, then chuck out messages.

    are these signposts at all obvious? or are they in the smallest print possible on the hardest to find page lol?

    i posted on some other forums and they pointed me towards programs and add-ons that rate/rank websites:

    mywot.com
    cleanzer.com

    are these any good? can you trust the ratings?
