What model is it, what channel have you set the wi-fi to, what security
    mode are you using?

if your linksys wifi router won't work, then it's defective or not set
    up correctly.
netgear, d-link, buffalo, apple, trendnet, zoom, noname house brands.
it *doesn't matter*. anything that supports 802.11 b/g/n will work.

Indeed again - apart from the `N` bit - unless I am mistaken the Iphone
does not yet support 802.11 N. If a wireless router was setup to broadcast
ONLY wireless N format then the Iphone would not be able to connect. But
clearly any such router is backward compatible and could be set up to
broadcast in the necessary B or G formats.

not yet. since the ipad does, it's likely that the next iphone will.
right. few people set n routers to n-only, and those who do generally
know why they're doing it and should be able to set things up so that g
devices such as an iphone or older computers can be used.

AS noone actually helped you with the Linksys, try this first:

Plug in the Linksys to its power supply and immediately put a bent open
paper clip into the hole marked RESET in the back of it where the
connectors all are. It's a little hole so you need a paper clip.
You'll feel the switch "click" when you press it in and the router will
do a complete reset as seen on the status lights on the front. The
router must be running to reset...ON.

This resets the Linksys to all factory default settings, no security
code like the one you forgot, and anyone with any wifi device can now
connect to it including iPhones and IPads and iTouches. The Linksys
will, with this default, do its "Hey, I'm here!" broadcasting on channel
6 (or is it 11 I forget as it doesn't matter). Now broadcasting its
presence, your ixxx can find the router.

Now, once you get it connected to your ixxxx device, open Safari and
    browse to:

When the router answers with its webpage it will ask for username and
password. Username leave blank, no entry. Password is admin all
lower case letters. When you OK that, you'll get the router's setup
wizard which will help you configure some basic things in the router. I
suggest you only change the admin username and password so every jerk
that attaches to it can't screw with your settings.....then, you should
change its security to the DIRT SIMPLE WEP security, not the most fancy
WPA/XXX/YYY security it does. Every device supports WEP....but many
don't support the others. WEP works fine as the range of this router
barely covers the yard around your house. If you live in an apartment
building with lots of kiddie krackers who need free internet, only the
smartest ones will be able to crack your WEP. Leave it simple until you
figure out what kind of security your iXXXX supports. Others on here
may know...or not. If you don't get WEP cracked...just leave it in WEP.
    Mine is for years.

RESET the Linksys with the switch in the little hole in the back and
let's start over again with SIMPLE changes to its complex structure.
Leave everything else in default and I bet your Ixxxx works fine with

Hook line and sinker! I knew it would work!

As the `outed` Loser Larry quite rightly pointed out - resetting the router
should solve all `problems`. If a problem actually existed. YRCMIU!!!!!

Larry out of here? I don't think so.

    My research is complete!

  11. Larry can certainly lurk if he so desires and he did help. I learned
something from the post myself. He was trying to help someone who was having
trouble. You should give him credit for that, and while we are at it he
    *never* did mention Nokia once.

IN CAPS THANKS to everybody who answered my question THIS HEDDER
is a LINKSYS wireless-G broadbrand router with speedbooster
IT WAS DEFECTIVE,,,After trying EVERTHING -i mean everthing would
give me WIFI Dectectable on my i phone ONLY WHILE THE FRONT
PUSH BUTTON ...That i pushed WAS BLINKING It showed me an WI FI named
linksts something,, but it was not the SETUP name i gave it
but when the light stoped blinking I HAD NOTHING in my wi fi 3 feet

NOW I would like to know IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE,,,what BRAND/MODEL DO You

Ive read a lot about the ROUTER i have and a lot of people have had PROBLEMS
with it, might even have the wrong/old firmware, linksys adviser software
but i'm tired of playing with it,now it doesn't even let me connect to the
internet IT USED TO,, but my SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA Cable modem BLAZES when
its straght thru.....Could even be a conflict between the two
I read about that a lot also about THE LINKSYS CANT FIND THE INTERNET...When
everthings connected right and tight...IT IS JUST A PIECE OF CRAP
I MIGHT HAVE A LEMON,,,, But my one year limited warrenty is out of date

I concider myself smart but NOT TWEAK IT ,TWEAK IT
SMART....................I just want to know what BRAND MODEL Works out of
    the box by
installing the software and haveing it detect WI FI to my IPHONE in several
steps, without haveing to rework my whole system.........
HEY it could be my IPHONE and i really need to know before my 30 days are up
    I got a iphone 3gs 32g

    HELLRAISER, May 16, 2010
  13. I have an iPhone 3G and an Apple Time Capsule, and there's no problem with
    them working together.

It should have a model number and version printed somewhere. That will
help you find relevent information from websites, newsgroups and people
who know. What's written on the front is often lacking in the detail.
Do you have a wireless laptop or other wifi something. Does that work?

Some routers have a sequence of acknowledgment button pushes that have
to be made when introducing a new wifi item to the network.
Everything works when setup correctly. Why don't you get a home visit
from someone more knowledgeable. Not everyone is a geek.

If your iPhone connects to other wifi networks (try a cafe) you should
    be OK on that.
Stop shouting IN CAPS. We understand you are a bit hurt, but it's not
    really grown up.
