I'm a newbie to Windows 2003 Server. I'm going to set up an ftp server on it, and I assume the server OS itself has what it takes to do this. Which services should I enable, not just for this purpose but for running a web server (IIS) on it as well in the near future? Any hints and tips in general?

I haven't seen any updates for IIS for 2003 Server. You can use the URL Scan 2.5 for IIS6. Also check out Resource Kit. You need to make sure that port 80 and 21 are open on the IP of your web/ftp server.

For services, you want to enable IIS, then within the IIS snap-in, you would want to setup the FTP section.

I never setup an FTP server using Windows builtin FTP funtions. Mayne IIS6 is better. I haven't played with it. I need to though.

What version of 2003 Server do you have?
