hi i have wierd problem where i double click to run a program and it runs but then it closes again so fast that you won't even know it started. i know its not the programs that is causing the problem because the problem would exist on one version and not another. for instance i can't run blindwrite 5 but i can run blindwrite 4.4. this happens on random programs and its getting so annoying. plz help! thanks in advance for anyhelp.

o i think i saw a thread like this here before but im not sure. i couldn't find it in search. if you guys find it can you please direct me to it?

I know the thread, but can't find it. I believe the issue was some sort of spyware or virus. Have you done the normal scans?

Yes, the infamous 'super fast close'. This is almost always a virus, spyware, or trojan. Download AVG AntiVirus, run a full system scan, and then get AdAware and run that as well.

The log looks fine. You sure the Anti-virus scanner is up-to-date? I think S Walch had an answer to this issue.

after running avg and having no viruses detect. i went to the trend micro website to use their free online virus scanner. it detected a virus called troj briss h. on my computer. could this be the problem? how would i get rid of it? i remember having this virus before its gives you an uninstall option in add/remove programs and if you use that option it messes up your ip so you cant connect to anything.

i'm tryin to fix the same problem on a friends computer. Big problem is, they don't have antivirus installed....(dumb). My question is what are the chances of my computer getting infected if i slaved their hard drive to mine and scanned with my antivirus program

None. You'd actually have to boot their hard drive as a master. If you booted their OS, it'd spread to your hard drive.

By setting the jumper for that drive to slave, and the hard drive with the OS you want to boot should have the jumper set to master.

Looks fine. I think Norton installs way too many services though.

Also try this: Delete your TEMP files. Having too many can cause lots of weird problems. Windows needs to write to the TEMP folder when it's operating and if it can't (because there are too many files there), this can cause odd things to occur.

I have a little "regular maintenance checklist" that you could go through:

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files)

-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK

-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup

-- Download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds

    -- Download Diskeeper and defrag

-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (or your spyware removal tool of choice).
