This works perfectly well on my Windows 7 Starter (32bit), but nothing
seems available for Windows 7 premium (64 bit).

Is Windows 7 premium (64 bit) a downgrade from Windows 7 Starter 32
bit? It seems to have less functionality with respect to printing.

What do you mean, "nothing seems available"?

Have you connected the printer to the machine with W7-64, and run the
install wizard? If so, what happens? If not, then that's what you need to
do. The drivers for the 5P will be MS ones.

In the sense that you mean, there is no difference in printing
    functionality between the W7 versions.

Wrong. 64-bit drivers are built-in / available on Windows update.

Waste everyone else's time except but your own. Is is hard to google
    HP<space>5P?

And read further down on the wiki page about its use in internet forums,
and about the personality flaw of people submitting a GIYF.

Actually, none of your suggestions work. HP Laserjet 5P is not listed as
MS Windows printers. Even when updating the list, Windows can't find the
printer. Going on to HP website, they say that they don't have drivers
for this printer They do have drivers for 5MP, but that's the postscript
version and don't work for 5P.

I don't know why people aren't being more helpful Johannes, it's certainly
not in the spirit of usenet.

You can find the W7 64 drivers for your HP 5P here:

You would like to think so but, I'm afraid, on this newsgroup 'bad spirit'
is commonplace. There are far too many self-appointed netcops.

They will be along anytime now...

No, I admit I took his post at face value.

Looks like Dave Groom is yet another one vying for the position of village
idiot, for which there is strong competition in this newsgroup.

Really? I thought it was quite funny, and a suitable response considering

Cue one of the main contenders; MT himself. Now, wasn't that predictable.
And still spouting on about his nonsensical sleuthing 'capabilities'. What a
burden it must be, to be so self-consuming.
