    A friend has just reported the message “this copy of windows is not
    genuine”.

    This is on a Vista laptop bought probably 2 years ago from PC World.

    There is a large diagnostic report, starting:

    Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):
    -----------------------------------------
    Windows Validation Data-->
    Validation Status: Invalid License
    Validation Code: 50
    Cached Online Validation Code: 0x0
    Windows Product Key: *****-*****-27HYQ-XTKW2-WQD8Q

    Should she run a good malware removal tool, or refer it back to PC
    World? You would have thought that it would not be in their best
    commercial interests for PC World to sell rip-off copies of software!

    I accept that there are those who would describe Windows Vista as malware!
