OK, now I'm thoroughly baffled. Although it wouldn't work at 3.4GHz with
the memory underclocked at 755MHz, I set it to a 1:1 memory ratio and put
the FSB way up at 400 for 3.6GHz on the CPU and the usual 800MHz for the
RAM. It works fine!!! Maybe the RAM just didn't know what to make of the
strange speed(?) and set some timings it couldn't handle.

Prime95 is stable after 50 minutes of running, with temps peaking at 58
degrees compared to 52 at stock speed. That's still lower than the temps
were with the Intel cooler at stock speed. I'll leave it running all night
    to make sure.

Worth it just for the spam removal IMO. 'Pre-cleaned' usenet
groups are *much* nicer to inhabit.
