Dell PowerEdge 2400 server handed down to me. Mostly seems fine, though one
of the HDs died just as I started installing on it :(

The SCSI controller seems to work fine in non-RAID configuration, however I
am trying to get the onboard RAID controller working. It requires a RAID key
and a suitable DIMM, both of which are installed. The key is definitely
correct (I googled the part number), and the DIMM probably so (It requires
an unbuffered 100MHz 64Mb SDRAM DIMM - when I accidentally tried a buffered
dimm it told me so, but no complaints with the one in now).

On boot up it gives the error in the subject line:

Fatal error: Controller kernel self test failed
<< Press any key to continue

If continue then it eventually reports failing POST check.

I've flashed updated the BIOS, the ERM, and the PERC itself - no better.

Do I give up and go for software RAID, or is there anything else I should
try. It seems that perhaps this problem is not in firmware but in hardware?

  2. Try a cross-post to comp.periphs.scsi and
ge. Ignore anything posted by "Rod Speed".
