Outlook / Outlook Express

Discussion in 'Computing' started by Damien McBain, Jan 20, 2004.

  1. I use OE for ng's (with OE Quotefix) and prefer Outlook for e-mail (I prefer
the pst file method of data storage - password protected to stop the kids
from inadvertantly seeing some of the questionable stuff I sometimes receive
    from mates).

Even though OE is the default handler for mail and news, it opens the
Outlook PST file (I have to enter the password) everytime I post on a ng. It
also prevents OE quotefix from automatically placing the cursor at the
bottom of a reply post etc, ie it behaves like Outlook. Outlook.exe is not
    running in the background.

If I uninstall Outlook, OE behaves as I would expect. Reinstall and it
reverts to the behaviour I have described. With previous Win2k installations
I haven't experienced this pain in the butt.

    Any ideas?

With or without Outlook installed, OE is always the default news client.
Outlook doesn't have one built in so uses OE. Not sure if that'll
    assist with your fault-finding.

  3. Thanks for all the replies. The problem is almost certainly the RAM.
