Old PC, AGP graphics card update

Discussion in 'DIY Computers' started by Jaimie Vandenbergh, Jan 1, 2013.

  1. My mum has an old Shuttle SK21G, with an Athlon MP 3400+, 3 gig, 200W
    PSU, running XPsp3.

It currently has a fanless nVidia 6600GT plugged into its AGP slot.
I'd like to pep that up a bit, which I know is a bit of an ask!

Were there any better fanless AGP gfx cards than it has?

    Cheers - Jaimie

A 6600gt card is a pretty high end agp card as it is, i doubt the system,
with such a low psu could really manage anything else.

  3. Just for curiosity, why?
What can't the machine do that a (minor) graphics upgrade will solve?

  4. Over Christmas she graduated from Big Fish Games (real casual stuff)
to Steam as her gaming is moving upwards in complexity - she's
currently wanting to play the likes of Portal, and the 6600GT isn't
    really up to it.

Thanks Tired for the answer - that's pretty much what I was thinking,
but second opinions are what Usenet's for!

  5. Cool! (goes and checks) But ouch to the price! The similar 3750's are
about the same, just under £100. Hmm.

Probably time to put a new system together, since for not a lot more I
can double the CPU, memory, and gfx power of sticking with the old
    box. Oh well!
