Not really a problem, more like a question...

I'm planning on upgrading my PC shortly to be prepared for Half Life 2 when it comes out, so I have a few questions:

Should I upgrade to 1 GB of DDR ram or stick with my 512 MB?

Which is better, Ati Radeon 9800 or a Geforce FX 5950 (alienware)
because I'm gonna be needing either of those.

Currently on an AMD athlon 1800+ - would a 2600+ be sufficient?

    Any suggestions welcome.

Get a GB if you can, and a board that supports Dual Channel DDR. HL2 is optimized susposedly for ATI. I have always liked ATI's performace, so I say go with the Radeon. I just bought one (I haven't put it in my PC yet, I'm waiting for other parts for my new PC to come in).

As for the AMD CPU's, I'm not sure. I don't like AMD, I've always had problems with them, so I'm not sure.

I do know that HL2 with have a lot of particle effects and moving things on the screen that require a lot of CPU time, so the more the better. ;)

Intel... NM I don't want to start a war. :)

From what I've read this is only an option for an Intel board.
