When I open a new window in IE (IE6) or follow a link in a new window it
opens half screen: I am sure from years back that you can configure it
to open full screen somewhere but can't find/remember where - it doesn't
seem to be under IE tools, options. Any clues welcome.....

Open IE, and resize the window how big you want it. Then, hold shift and
click the X to close the window.

My computer runs at 3.5MHz and I'm proud of that

  3. IIRC IE opens a new window in the size you last closed it. i.e if you
close it in full screen the it will be in full screen the next time you
    open it

It should do, but sometimes doesn't. :(

A sure-fire way of getting it to remember the setting you want is to
open *two* instances of Explorer (Windows or Internet), resize both to
roughly what you want, then close both. Explorer should then have
remembered this setting - until the next time...
