Hey guys! Just started college this fall where I'm majoring in Nursing. So, dad's gonna buy me a new laptop. He is making me get a Dell since he gets a discount through his job at the Mayo Clinic. The setup I have come up with seems pretty nice, but I need some more opinions on how everyone thinks it will perform for some basic gaming and such. :)

    Here it goes:

    Dell XPS M1530
    -Tuxedo Black
    -Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 (2.16GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
    -Vista Home Premium SP1
-High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LED LCD (1440x900)
-2 MP webcam and microphone built in
    -4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 dimms)
    -320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    -Slot loading DVD+/-RW drive
-256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Graphics Card
    -Fingerprint reader

Thanks a lot in advance everyone. I just wanna make sure I'm not making a bad choice here :)

Well it SHOULD play Halo alright-ish...;)

kidding, it sounds good to me, although personally, I'd stick with XP, IMO vista uses far too much RAM, but thats just my opinion.

The GPU sounds a good option too, I'm kinda jealous now ;)

Yeah, the operating system can be changed after I get it so I'm not too concerned about that, but I do think I'll most likely leave Vista on it.

Really my only concern is if that Nvidia 9600M GT is any good?

There's a difference between teh 8600 and the 9600, which is it? Either will do gaming just fine the 9600 more so than the other.

That is a good system, good model too, my fiance has one step down from that and it's a well running machine. Vista will reun fine, I think you will like it once you get used to it.

My bad, that was a typo, the best graphics card that is available on the 15.4" XPS is the GeForce 8600M GT.

Very cool. I just started my second year working on my nursing prerequisite courses. Hoping to go for a BSN in the end.

Don't expect to run Crysis on full specs. Probably most new games on medium-ish settings.

Yay! This thing rocks so hard! I love it, the backlit keyboard and fingerprint scanner are some nifty features.
