I would retire.
I iz your spammi fryend. Du u lik spam?
Just kidding. I'd like to see if that gets through.
We are going to end up with a thread full of spam b/c everyone wants to test the filter.
Ian should write a letter to the developers of the filter he is using and link this thread in his email.
The filter should work when there are less than 5 posts and it should also stop any link/e-mail posting below that number too.
I don't know if we can manually trigger it by just using a few words, as the filter is built using a list of known common spam posts and has a heuristic element to it.
It won't stop spammers signing up, but it will prevent posts appearing on the site - hopefully! I've not seen a single post end up in the moderation queue yet, have any of the other mods?
well ive just deleted 2 posts and banned a spammer he posted a website like this (blahblahblah.net) or something like that
Yep, that was manually targetted spam, and he didn't post a link but wrote the domain as text. I don't think I can make the spam filters work any harder without chopping off legit posts.
Most spammers are automated and will try and post links, which will get rejected straight away. Someone would need to manually type in URLs and not link them for it to get past.
I think we'll just need to deal with the spam on a case by case basis now Although the spam filter should stop known automated spammers.
An old thread I know but unless it has been implemented in the meantime it may be worth considering the "Stop Forum Spam" vB add on available from the vB website.
Thanks Wolfey, I installed that plugin a few months back and it's great . Looking at the logs for all the spammers is crazy as it shows some robots trying to register every few mins :shock.
