I'm working on a computer (Dell Inspiron E1705) that has been having problems connecting to the internet. The problem, as it turns out, is that the Network Store Interface Service is no longer working (this service is the parent dependency for all network connection services - without it there is no way to connect to a network). I've tried a system restore, but that didn't work. What else can I do short of restoring the OS?

Would reinstalling the ethernet drivers do anything?

Under Add/Remove programs, then click on the Add/Remove Window Components, scroll down till you see Networking services. Under that the only one that needs to be checked is the top one. Or you can install all of the services. If that doesn't do it, then I dunno.

Oh and I just realized this was under the Vista thread :shock

Uh... I dont have my copy of vista installed atm (for gaming I'm happier on XP along with drivers too) so what I did post may be a little different in Vista than XP

I just took a look and unfortunately, microsoft has made it a major pain in the butt to do anything thats simple. It took me 5 minutes to realize that "add remove programs" is now called "programs and features".

There's no "add or remove components" like XP did. Its probably somewhere else. I recall seeing it once, but I can't remember how I got there.

If you take a look under Control Panel\Programs and Features\ on the left hand side there's a button called 'Turn Windows features on or off'. I believe that is what you're looking for-also, if you try to start that service through the services mmc (Start, Run, services.msc) what error emssage do you receive?

None of that solved it. I've looked all day for the past 2 days and found nothing, so I am restoring the computer to factory condition.
