need help

    i have a busted gateway laptop, i want the information/pictures
    on the hardrive. the gateway doesn't power up, nothing caused a crash info is intact,
    last use was logged off properly, then the computer was shutdown correctly,
    just no longer works.
    can i remove the hardrive, install on another device to access the info? can i pay a service tech to do this?

    Yeah. You can remove it and either connect it as an internal drive to another computer, or use a SATA/USB adapter to hook it up to another computer's USB port.

    Most likely is the power board on the laptop has died, as Goober suggested connecting the drive to another computer should let you access your files

    You can pay a service to do it, but it is easy enough to do yourself I wouldn't waste the money.

    Do you still need to set these drives as "Slave" in order for them to be recognized by BIOS as storage devices?

    That only applies to IDE drives in older pcs.
