NBNCo CEO shows why the NBN is a circus

Discussion in 'Computing' started by ALP = Another Lie Party, Dec 27, 2012.

  1. "THE National Broadband Network will help older people stay in their own
homes longer and their aged care will cost a fraction of what they would
pay for a nursing home, the man in charge of building the project says".

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/vi...roject-boss-says/story-e6frf7kx-1226543755255

For a start, old peoples' health and quality of life is much better if
they get out & about - so *mobility* is what they need not to be stuck
    alone at home.

Secondly, social interaction dramatically improves quality of life for
retired people *and* their life expectancy.

Third, providing broadband services to a community is always going to be
    cheaper.

This is why you cannot believe anything that comes out of Conroy or
Quigley's mouth - their sole dogmatic goal appears to be to 'sell' a
    flawed concept to voters.

The CEO of NBNCo should be getting on with the job he was hired to do
    and stay out of politics.

  2. "Mr Quigley hit back at critics who had derided the NBN's slow roll-out,
saying the decade-long project was like 'pushing the pig through the

  3. "Mr Turnbull said on Lateline this week his alternative broadband plan,
which would stop the rollout of fibre to cabinets on street corners
rather than into individual homes, could cost as little as $15 billion.

'I won’t try and guess what it will save in terms of capex other than to
say that if we’re putting 70 to 80,000 of these cabinets out around the
country it won’t be cheap', Mr Quigley said".

Hmmm...this guy is in charge of spending $37b of taxpayers money. Let's
see how many cabinets the NBN will need...

    5 million homes x 93% fibre / 24 homes(max) per GPON node = 193,750
    cabinets...
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5408775841/

That's more than double the number of FTTN cabinets!

think you're stupid than to open it & remove all doubt.

"Low Social Interaction Harms Lifespan on a Par with Obesity, Smoking,
    Inactivity"

Older people stuck alone at home is the *worst* possible environment.

They need social interaction and activity - such as in a retirement
village and being out & about.

And provisioning a community is *always* going to be cheaper.

    Thats what he wants.
He and Turnbull want to return to the Glory days of telstra when POTS
was the only way people could communicate at a distance.

if the clock was wound back a century he would be whining there was no
need for a telephone in every household because telephony would only
be needed by businesses, and not all of them. After all the telegraph
and telegram have been working perfectly well so far.

  10. Do you really believe that the miners are going to pay super profits tax?
It took them a couple of weeks to setup transfer pricing companies
to ensure that the profits went overseas. Whilst a laudable attempt by
Labor to spread the wealth, like anything that Labor touches now it turns
to shit within seconds of them announcing a change of policy.

He's a luddite David, he just blindly supports the current Liberal Policy.
When the ALP was originally proposing a fibre to the node system the Libs
and their puppets here were dead set against it. Now that Turnbull has got
them part of the way there and they have a FTTN policy its the obvious
correct answer. When the Libs eventually accept the NBN they will call it
something different and proclaim it the greatest solution ever. Turnball is
just playing the game. Abbott gave him the job so that he can actually
claim that Turnball isn't a man of principle by opposing something he
actually believes in. Hasn't worked so far, as Turnball has got them away
from using copper wire to supporting a FTTN system.

Did he mention it was trialed and abandoned by Telstra in Gungahlin 15
years ago? Or perhaps Telstra didn't mention it to him when they
    handed him the script.

Telstra will do anything to maintain their monopoly over copper to the
    home.

While Turnbull is publicly saying FTTH is silly, privately he bought
shares in France Telecom, which plans to connect 60 per cent of French
    households to fibre by 2020.

    According to Conroy:
''He is trying to lock Australians into an inferior broadband network,
while investing to future-proof France's digital economy.''

Poor Malcolm. He knows the right thing to do, invests in it with his
own money, but he's stuck peddling an inferior product for a few cheap
votes to get Tony elected PM.

  18. The problem with the ALP is that they have one-dimensional brains. All
they can do is chant 'Fibre good, copper bad' over & over like an 'Om'.

Turnbull is an accomplished businessman. He (and most financially
competent people) know that you cannot build it all at once - and thus
you need to continue to extract value from existing assets. And
technology changes - futurists are the worst forecasters. e.g. All that
    crap about remote keyhole surgery.

The ALP are morons when it comes to money & it doesn't cost anything -
in a *ten year* timeframe to produce a business case and explore other
avenues. The whole thing is just one huge ALP bullshit exercise.
