I'm looking to link my desktop to my laptop via wi-fi to share files and an internet connection. What hardware should I get for my desktop to accomplish this?

    1. Wireless router for your internet connection. If ADSL, get a combined ADSL mode+Router. If Cable, then a Cable router.

    2. Either a Wireless USB adapter or an internal Wireless PCI card for your desktop. Your laptop should have built in wireless. If not, then again, a Wireless USB adapter would do, or a Wireless Notebook adapter card.

    That's pretty much it.

Yes, the laptop has wifi built in. I went for a USB type wireless adapter and used a free software called Connectify.
    Thanks for the replies.
