Internet Explorer (IE7) running under Windows XP

IE has started playing up. When I try to access a web site the status
bar shows that the site has been found and is starting to download. When
the progress bar gets toward half way it seems to stall. The cursor is
arrow + hourglass and there's a lot of disk activity which eventually
settles down but that's all. If I wait long enough (an hour or more)
the page may eventually render but I don't want wait that long :-(

    Any ideas?

IE7 (and IE8) are no longer supported by MS, and many websites now won't
talk to them at all. So I installed Google Chrome, and find it seems
    quicker and better all round.

Unless you have a compelling reason to stick with IE (and its many
quirks) I'd move to a different browser.
