I recently (after cleaning up a virus and numerous spyware on my computer) found that IE only displayed "Page Cannot Be Displayed." So i switched to Mozilla Firefox which i like much better than IE. But today i went to update windows and well, i need IE to work. So could anyone please help me figure out what is wrong with IE. Thank you.

Also, I recommend downloadin CWS shredder from the handy tools sections. That will probably fix your page can't be displayed problem. Barring that, you can remove TCP/IP from your system and then reinstall it. That fixes it everytime.

You should try CWS shredder first.

Go into Network Connections, right click on the connection you're using, go to Properties, then in the box where it lists all the installed protocols, select TCP/IP, then click Remove. Reboot. Go back to where you were before, this time click 'Add' and then select Protocol, then select Microsoft TCP/IP. Click ok. Reboot. You should now be able to use it.

    Hi,

You could try running the repair tool:

To repair Internet Explorer: In the Control Panel - Add-Remove Programs > Highlight
Internet Explorer then click Change-Remove tab - choose Repair I.E. OK - Yes

If it's not listed in Add/Remove, Go to Start - Run - type: msinfo32 in the open
box - click OK -- From Tools the menu - choose IE Repair Tool -- Repair IE.

Note: If you get an error message saying it cannot be repaired, reinstall then run
    the repair.

    This may may also help:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/ie/ie5/topics/browse/iebrowseemts.asp

You could also try this tool:

Short tutorial and download link here:
    http://tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/
After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot fix everything it labels in red.

(I'm just guessing, but your wsock32.dll file maybe corrupted. If so then it is possible to rename it & create another))

First of all i noticed that i could'nt uninstall TCP/IP (button was ghosted) and when i went to install there was no Microsoft TCP/IP listed. Also there was no repair tool in the view menu of msinfo32. Lastly about the wsock32.dll being corrupted, how do i check that? Thank you again everyone for your help.

    Spybot didn't help either
