When I try to check my hotmail it brings up the "Page Cannont Be Displayed" page. It also does it when I try to log onto my online banking and update Windows. When I try to update Windows it gives an error "0x800c0005". :rage I have tried lowering my privacy and cookies are enabled. I cannot figure it out.

0x800C0005= Cannot locate the Internet server or proxy server.

A couple of things to try: Delete all your temp. internet files and delete your cookies, sometimes there can be a corrupt file in there causing the issues.

    Next flush your dns cache:
    1. Click start
    2. Run
    3. type cmd (push enter)
    4. type ipconfig /flushdns

Have you used adaware? If you have adware installed it does something to your hosts file.

    Try this:

    1. Find the following file:
    Windows 95/98/ME: c:\windows\hosts
    Windows XP Home/Pro: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    Windows NT or 2000: c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    2. Edit the "host" file by right-clicking the file, then select "open with", select "Notepad".

    3. Delete the following lines if any present:
Should be a line that says other "crappy" webistes or something like that. Delete all that stuff! You should see some things like:

    service.bfast.com
    click.linksynergy.com
    clickserve.cc-dt.com
    commission-junction.com
    cj.com
    http://www.qksrv.net

    4. Save the editted file.

    Hope this helps :)

All good suggestions from Sics, also, I see you have XP Pro, I added that to your profile, I usually look there to see what people have, feel free to edit the rest (User CP or Quick Links).

Are you having problems with just those sites? Or all? If so, you must be on another PC.

If you're having problems with all sites, try this at the command prompt and then reboot:
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

that didn't help. I did install ad-aware and there were no sites on the host file. Yes those are about the only sites I cannot go to. I can't log onto MSN messenger either.

Maybe the .NET passport has something to do with this? Not too sure. I would try uninstalling MSN and reinstalling. But i don't think that will have any affect on going to there website or not. :?

Hmmm, run a repair on IE, or remove it and reinstall it. Check out this MS KB article to find out how to repair IE.

I go by your profile, you had Windows 2000 in it. So you have XP.

Try this KB article from MS, if you can get to it.

    Do This:

    Register .Dll Files

    Re-register the following .dll files:

    Softpub.dll
    Wintrust.dll
    Initpki.dll
    Dssenh.dll
    Rsaenh.dll
    Gpkcsp.dll
    Sccbase.dll
    Slbcsp.dll
    Cryptdlg.dll

    To do so:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
    3. At the command prompt, type the following lines and press ENTER after each line: regsvr32 softpub.dll
      regsvr32 wintrust.dll
      regsvr32 initpki.dll
      regsvr32 dssenh.dll
      regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
      regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
      regsvr32 sccbase.dll
      regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
      regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
    4. Click OK when you receive the message that DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded.
    5. Type exit to quit Command Prompt.

Do you happen to have 2 PC's that has a burner or a friend that has a burner? If so, check out this [thread=181]thread[/thread].

If not, let's try this. Log on with your local Admin account, go to C:\documents and settings\ | remove your profile (make sure your bookmarks and settings are saved or remembered) | Go to Control Panel | Add / Remove Programs | Windows Components | Uncheck IE and click ok | Reboot | log on as the Admin again | Put a check bak in IE and click ok | Reboot.

Now, logged on as admin, put in your XP CD and go to Start | Run | sfc /scannnow

If it finds and fixes anything, great, if not, even better. Go to Windows Update on the Admin profile or yours. Hopefully this will work.

This profile is the Admin profile. It also does it on my other profile. I dled SP1 and burnt it onto a CD still didn't fix the problme. I uninstalled IE from Add/Remove Programs and Windows Components. Then installed SP1 still nothing.

Hmm, I have seen IE get so corrupted that nothing worked, kinda like this situation. The only other thing that I can think of is maybe run a browser hijacker scanner, that we have listed in Handy Tools.

If that doesn't work, it may be a reformat. Unless someone else has any ideas, if so I would like to know as I have this problem at work once in awhile.

disable your notron security and try to connect, I've seen more problems with this firewall software than other software.. Give it a try and see what happens.

    Process File: ccpxysvc or ccpxysvc.exe
Process Name: Common Client Proxy Service.

Could be causing your error on the first page regarding the proxy...
