Every time i open the control centre i receive a dialogue that says it cannot open the program due to an error in reading the electronic certificate

Uninstall AVG and reinstall the newest version.

Try uninstalling it again, but this time go back to your C:/Program files\ - and there should still be a folder for AVG antivirus, so delete it completely.

Alsp get a trial registry mechanic or something and let it clean the registry for you to get rid of any registry key's that AVG has left.

    Then reinstall the new version.

    That should work :)

I keep on doing that. I have done that several times. It does not seem to work. I think i am going to reforamt my computer or get another anti-virus, for free, does any body know of any other companies who offer anti-virus for free.

Are you sure you don't have a virus? AVG is a very stable program, I don't know what would cause it to crash after you uninstalled it.

Most of the problems conflict because the old is having problems with the new. Same with Norton. 2004 doesnt like to install anew with 2005. So you get bad problems. Registry and such usually wipes it clean.

But if you really dont mind, a fresh reformat isnt really a bad idea. It would cure whatever the problem is. HOWEVER! You dont get the benefit and self-satisfaction of solving the problem. And were there to be a round 2, you would lose again.

    So dont give up yet!

Dont worry about it guys. Avg themselves admits having problems with the new version. mainly on Windows 9x based systems. They are trying to fix them. These problmes aare mainly occuring from the Avg control centre. Naturally i did a serious computer clean up, and then reinstalled Avg, and it is still giving me the smae problem. Instead of bothering my self about it I just downloaded another trusted and reputable anti-virus program, AntiVir. I personally like and see no poblem with it nd it look like it has been doing a good job up until now. Thanks anyway.
