OfficeJet Pro 8000 version 809a (i.e ethernet version).

I'm writing this up in case anybody else sees the same problem.

Printer has a duplex mechanism. It prints page 1, pulls the page back
into itself, turns over the paper, and prints page 2. In draft mode it
does so at full speed. In normal or best mode there is a pause before
the paper is pulled back in - presumably to allow time for the ink to dry.

Windows XP - driver supplied on CD by HP - all works OK.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - driver supplied by Microsoft as part of W7
    installation - fails as follows:

    Works ok in draft mode.

In normal or best there is the usual delay before the paper is pulled
in. Page 2 is printed with random amounts of text missing; and the
paper has a crease about 5cm from the bottom (about the point where the
mechanism holds it before pulling it in).

    Try - delete printer ...

Download generic W7 64-bit driver from HP website. Install -
installation fails. Follow instructions on HP website to remove
previous installation package - this also appears to fail with a
permission error despite me working as Administrator - but the driver is

Install the HP pagackage again - installation completes OK this time.

Printing now works correctly - at least so far as my initial testing shows.
