Hey guys, been a while since I've been here, I just ordered a new rig, here's the specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon XP-Mobile Barton 2500+
    Memory: (2) 512 Crucial pc3200 DDR400
    Optical Drive: Sony 8x Dvd+/-RW
    Mouse: Logitech MX510 (Blue)
CPU Cooling: ZalmanCNPS3100+ w/Arctic Silver 5 (Was going to get a 7000 but was too worried about the incompatibility issues with my mobo)
    Mobo: Abit NF7-S V2
Headset: Logitech Extreme PC Gaming Headset
    OS: Microsoft XP Home
    HDD: Maxtor 160gb w/8mb Buffer
    Monitor: Viewsonic 19" g90fb w/PerfectFlat screen
    Case: Antec File Server AMG1080
    PSU: Antec TruePower430w
Video Card: Debating between a 6800GT or an FX5900(maybe xt, but non-xt can be flashed to 5950 bios :p )

So yeah, just thought I'd get some feedback, Tell me what you guys think! Think it'll run Doom III or HL2? Or UT2004? It'll be here by friday (two days from this posting) and **** I'm stoked  ;) !

Get a Radeon X800 instead of the Geforce Equivelant.

I'd have gone for a better processor and 1 GB worth of DDR 400 RAM.

But that looks to be about as powerful as my PC :)

Although I'm sure James beats the pants off anyone elses here >.>

Bah, I'm overclocking mine to 3200+ (2.4ghz) which is roughly the equivalent of a 3.0 P4 and costs<half of it. The X800 is nice, but the 6800GT can easily surpass it in most applications besides AA and AF in which the X800 even only barely surpasses it then ;) Anyone have a 5900 for sale?

Get the 6800 GT, the x800 and 6800 GT are so neck in neck with each other in terms of power that you really can't tell the difference, unless of course you're running Doom 3, in which case the 6800 GT beats the pants off of the x800XT.

I shall defend nVidia to the death SWalch! :p :D

Yeah I wouldn't buy an ATI card anyway because NONE of them work with the 3d stereo cards found at www.3dmedialabs.com Plus The 6800GT is sold at the local bestbuy for only $400 :D

..what do you mean none of them work?

If they didn't work people wouldn't be buying them and using them now would they?

    Ati radeon 9800 Pro > Geforce 5950/5900

I am an Nvidia fan too, but when it's blatenly obvious ATi has better equivelants, I can't just say Nvidia has the better cards becasue it just aint true.

What the **** are you talking about? Please re-read my post and properly digest the information put there (take as long as you like so you can avoid making yourself look less intelligent than I am sure that you are). I said that the ATI cards DO NOT WORK WITH THE STEREO 3d GLASSES FOUND AT www.3dmedialabs.com ! So therefore, an ATI card is out of the question!

    I win! ;)

    -Rob

[EDIT] Oh, and by the way, where did I say that the 5900/5950 was any better than the 9800? Oh wait, that's right, I didn't! ;) Once again, reading the thread before you attempt to tear me apart would be a safe step to take. I also never even mentioned the 5900 in the thread **(POST)** where I said that the ATI cards don't work either, I mean come on, I never even said that the cards themselves dont work! Only that they're incompatible with those Stereo 3d glasses! AND I have only been talking about the 6800, but hey, thanks for your concern and sharing your knowledge. :clap [/EDIT]

all I saw was "Yeah I wouldn't buy an ATI card anyway because NONE of them work" to which I stoped reading because I'd already saw red :p I apologize

Think you'll find you DID mention the 5900 :p

I was just saying that the 9800 > 5900/5950 seeing as though it looked like you were buying an inferior card with the "for sale" bit at the end :)

My bad for goin off bro, and thanks for the apology. I just hate it when people try to tell me I said something that I know I didn't. Oh, and hey, next time can you quote the whole sentence? It said that I "never even mentioned the 5900 in the thread (I meant post, which I have now edited) where I said that the ATI cards don't work". I'm sure that if you had read the whole sentence you would have caught my drift or maybe you were just taking advantage of my mis-phrasing so that you could get me back for getting you. :D Now, I can quote it for you but I'm sure you can go up there and just take a look-see. ;)

:whistle Anyway, any other opinions on it? Maybe nothing that'll start a flame-war preferably? :lol2

    :thumbs :clap

Well, the actualy only difference between the 6800 and the X800 is a few FPS, between the region of 4-7 FPS, but if you want to spend an extra $100 or so on the 6800 just for a few extra FPS, and the RAM is more than enough for your applications to work with the X800.

    just my $.02

Actually you would be spending an extra $100+ on the x800 XT than the 6800 GT......

EDIT: IT has come to my attention that the 6800 GT is the lesser of the 6800 Ultra! I had them switched. So I geuss was wrong! Forgive me SWalch!

Yeah the x800xt is more expensive than the 6800gt, and the x800pro is the same price as the 6800gt, and the 6800gt is quite a few fps better than the pro.

    xD

this thread sure has entertained me...

I believe it basically goes like this:

    6800 Ultra > X800XT > 6800 GT > X800 Pro

Both ways, the 6800GT is the same price as the x800pro and owns it on all levels, hands down. The 6800GT is a step below the x800xt but is also $100 cheaper.

    Edit:

Isn't that basically what I said?

    That's a performance comparison there :)

:lol2 Woops I thought the "entertained" comment was sarcastic and you were telling him he was wrong :p

I say someone just closes this thread, no one gives a hoot about someone else's rig anyway :p
