    Windows XP Pro + SP2
For the past two to three years, the small volume control icon has been on
    the task bar.
It may be a coincidence, but a couple of weeks ago we installed the latest
version of the McAfee Internet Suite and now, when the computer starts up,
the icon is not on the task bar. So every time we switch the computer on, I
have to go Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices, uncheck the box to
display the volume control icon, apply it, check the box again, apply and OK
it, Hey Presto the volume control is back again until the computer is
    restarted. Can anyone please help?

Right-click the little arrow on the left of the system tray, and choose
Customise Notifications. In the list, find Volume, and change the setting to
    Always Show.
