Get a program like adware... it's happenening because you have inadvertently
allowed some software to be installed on your computer... programs like
Kazaa do this... to get the software you agree to let them install
advertising software on your computer and you get constantly plagued with
this crap....sometimes you can identify the software by rightclicking on the
popup and it will tell you the name of the software...e.g. GAIN etc., and
you can do a search on google to find out how to eradicate it manually...
but programs like adware are good....

  3. Depends on your browser, I think. I am using Opera for most purposes.
Haven't seen a popup in ages. Faster than IE, too. Only problem is
that some sites aren't Opera friendly. I keep IE for banking, mostly.

    thanks brian,

guess we'll have to live with it. we think we started getting it with
one of the banking web sites or i could have been the gov' job search
page. when it appears when we are using the banking site it takes you
right out of where you are and back to the beginning a real nuisance.

Download Spybot Search and Destroy, update it and run it, it should
clear out any nasties lurking on your PC.(available at below URL)
