    Hello
I have a very annoying problem

My Harddrive is constantly filling itself up and i have no idea where it is all going.

I have Norton 2003 Proffessional Anti-Virus software with all the current updates. :doh

This is really becoming a pain in the *****.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    P.S
( One time i was able to find a file in my computer with a bunch of random garbage like old downloads and stuff and it was about 6 gb) note that my HD is only 20 GB so this is crucial.

Thx for taking the time to read my thread.

    Dru

Run both of these after another

start > programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup
start > programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragment

You might want to download ad-aware and run that program it gets rid of alot of spyware(junk)

Even if you have Norton with all the updates you have to scan every once in awhile so Id suggest you do that.

    Disk Cleanup has no effect,
gets rid of some temp internet files and thats about it.

Is there any way i can see what my HD is being taken up by? Like a program that shows you where all the stuff is..??

Its wierd cuz ill free up 200 mb of space, leave my computer come back and it will be down to 50, 2 hours later, 0 mb of free space..

    very strange.

Check your C:\Documents and Settings\[your account name]\Local Settings\Temp - stuff can build up here.
    Also:
-Defraging your HDD can free up a lot of space
-Norton System works has a good system clean-up utiltiy
-run a disk check- quick and full -sometimes there are errors in your Filesystem and a good disk check can clear it right up.
-You using XP? system restore points can take up a lot of space
    - whats your pagefile set to?

Funny thing is the HDD im using now magically lost 60GB not too long ago, and several weeks later they magically returned :shock

I'll get back to ya if i think of anything else:)

Well it could be a few things, or things combined. How big is your page file? Do you have Sytem Restore enabled?

You sure you don't have a virus, maybe a MBR Virus?

Also, if you have Kazaa or any other app like that, your PC could be storing data and acting as a server. What OS do you have?

Try this program, SequoiaView. It will tell you what folders and files are the largest.

I am using Windows XP, i have Kazaa, i used to have the Blaster Worm Virus, and i was pretty sure i removed it.. But maybe not?

And is it okay to delete Pagefile.sys? its taking up about 500 MB.

I downloaded Ad-Aware and its scanning right now.

So far its found 114 New Objects...... o_O
    Mostly in my System32 folder

Most of the files were called
"Tracking Cookies", then there was "Hi-Wire" and "Gator" and "Alexa"

About 100 of them were the tracking cookies tho.

Don't delete the Pagefile. You need that.

I'd remove kazaa and all of the spyware like you said. Also, run HijackThis and post the log here.

    I ran a different Anti-Virus called Stinger.

    And found many instances of
    Exploit-DcomRPC.gen
Its being listed as a trojan.
    Found about 20 of them.
They were all found in files with the extension .INS
    Example - C:\Windows\System32\scan\46602466.INS

I don't think that's your problem though. Read more on it. I would get all the updates for Windows, specially the RPC patches. Keep updated with our News section for all the latest Windows patches, etc.
