Laptop (Windows 7) can connect to a large screen using an HDMI cable.
User has the choice of duplicating the image onto the large screen, or
"extending" the display so that the large monitor can be driven at its
native resolution independently of the laptop's built-in screen.

Problem is that the HDMI cable is bulky and inconvenient.

The ideal solution would be to provide a convertor to connect between
the HDMI port on the monitor to an Ethernet port, and for the laptop to
use its existing connection via Ethernet to the LAN.

Is there a product that will do this?

Has anybody any experience of using anyting that works as I describe?
