Ive done alot of searching and Im looking for ideas.

    win7 ultimate sp1
d: LG - gh20ns10 (updated to last driver circa 2009...)

I have been trying to listen to a cd. Everytime I put a disk (cd/or dvd) in it freezes explorer.exe. This is an audio disk, that was purchased, same for the dvd, they are not burned, mp3 or mp4 etc.
And in addition to that, after explorer unfreezes itself, IF i am allowed to access the disk (frequently I will see an error"Windows cant find the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"), it wont play, but will show the tracks as files.

    thoughts?
    ideas?

I would say the optical drive has failed. A replacement doesn't cost much and is easy to fit.

hmmmm the more I thik about it, it seems to have started after the WGA kicked in. The local repair shop installed Win7 from the recovery disk I had (hard drive failure required a reinstall)(beware hitachi death stars...lol).

when WGA kicked in, about 2 weeks later, thats when all the problems started.

FWIW I have been able to get cd's to work reliably.. but dvds not so much

    does WGA shut down drivers?
I know it keeps me from having a custom desktop back ground (its all black)
