i just got a dvd burner in the mail yesterday, and i was messing around with the software. i decided i wanted to make a video dvd, but the software (nero v.5) says that in order for the video to be able to be viewed on dvd, without making a vcd or svcd, the format must be a .vob, .ifo, or .bup. so i was wondering, if even possible, if anyone knows a program that can convert an .avi or .mpeg into one of those 3 formats so i can burn those movies. thanks a bunch

Ok then basically you can use some DVD authoring tool like Ulead DVD Movie Factory, TMPEGEnc DVD Author or WinDVD Creator.

What you can do is get the avi files, cut them into pieces with VirtualDub (for DVD menu), encode them to mpg with TMPEGEnc Plus. Then put everything in Ulead, create menus and everything else and then create an iso file (from Ulead) or you can create directly the DVD file structure. With the ISO file it's easier because you can load it directly in Nero and burn.

i got the ulead program and it works great, the only problem is when i try to burn the dvd, it constantly tells me the drive is e,pty and to insert a disc, while a disc is in the drive. if you have any reason why it says this, any help would be appreciated

You want to burn with Nero though, use Ulead to do all of your editing. Is the DVD formatted or un formatted?

Ulead did that to me too. Make sure you have the patches for it.

Just 5? The latest is 5.5.10.50. Download the update from Nero, it has support for DVD burning.
