i have a dell cpx laptop and a nokia 6110 phone. when on the road i
have often used the infrared feature within the phone to access the
internet for checking emails at 9.6kbps!

anyway, just signed up to the O2 pay as you go gprs service. have gprs
switched on all the time now. however, when i dial up to my plus net
accout i am still getting 9.6k.

what am i overlooking if anything at all? still using infrared for
    connection.

PAYG on O2 does not support any connection to the internet through
    GPRS or WAP.

If you are using a 0845 Dial up number you will be charged 40p a min
    and 9.6Kbs is the max
