Charging time for iPhone 6 Plus

With the supplied charger (1 A rating) seems really (really) slow.

I started charging it from "dead" off in the car this afternoon - that
was so slow it didn't even start up during the 20 minute drive (so that
charger isn't outputting much current I guess). Now it's on the 1A
(charger) and it's taking its sweet time ...

How long with an iPad charger? (2.1 A rating).

Will charging faster (2.1 A) be harder on the phone battery?

(Shouldn't - the iPhone 6+ battery is nearly 3 Ah capacity - OTOH, it is
thin and spread out ... hard to tell).

... suggests that it's no issue due to a charging rate
    rule-of-thumb (see article).

  2. How cold is it in your auto?

I've had the plus for a couple of months, hasn't seemed slow at all. But
    I've not run tests, either.

Mild enough - about -5°C when I started out and room temperature (±)
about 10 minutes later. I suspect that charger is limited to 0.5 A.
(It's a feed off of the car sound system).
It's been on the basic iPhone charger since about 18:00 .... now about
21:00 and it's not even at 50% charge.

Try a different cable, maybe. That seems slow. I can charge my iPhone 5S
from 50% to full in a little over an hour on a iPad charger, and about
100 minutes on an iPhone charger.
