Bitdefender

I just went to renew the annual subscription on bitdefender. I was going
to take advantage of a discount offer.

After running through the usually form and not opting for all the extra
bits they try to sell I got to a paypal screen with some extra fine
print. It looks that if I had continued I would have had my account
billed every year until I opted out.

I raised a complaint in a chat window with bitdefebder and they have
canceled the subscription as I would only pay year to year with no auto
payment. I am waiting to here from sales to see what they have to say
for themselves.

They have emailed me to remind me to pay but not to resolve my problem
with there conditions. ( May be that they forgot to cancel the sale as
promised.)


I guess it is the same as always READ THE FINE PRINT.

 

BitDefender has in recent times gone the way of Symantec and Network
Associates, promising you the world but giving you little more than
bloatware, marketed to buggery in the hopes that the gullible masses will
fork over their cash.

Use M$'s own Security Essentials
(http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=5201); it'll give
you far better protection, is far less intrusive than most security
software, is very lightweight (resource-wise), and is entirely free.

 

I use free products like Avase or AVG for antivirus,
and
Spybot or Adaware for spyware.

Personally I use the combination of Avast antivirus and spybot.
All thsese are free and far better than many that asks for money.

Avast, AVG, Spybot and Adaware has paid versions as well.
