Backup Exec 8.5 Workstation to Workstation Backup

Discussion in 'Backup Software' started by Stewart Berman, Dec 19, 2006.

  1. I have a server license for Backup Exec 8.5. I no longer use a domain
controller -- just Microsoft workgroup networking.

I have a tape drive on Machine_A and would like to backup files that
are on Machine_B. Just files - no state information.

I cannot get it working. I have tried using the network section of
the Backup Exec's backup selection to select directories on
\\MachineB\C$ administrative share. When I run the job Backup Exec
says it could not access the share and then says access denied.

I can attach the shares manually using explorer so it does seem to be
    a security issue.

I tried installing the Remote option on Machine_B but Machine_A cannot
    see the Remote Agent.

If I map the share as a drive letter Backup Exec does not list it.

I don't want to copy the files from Machine_B to a local hard drive on
Machine_A before backing them up to tape.

Any suggestions on how to backup the files on Machine_B using
    Machine_A would be greatly appreciated.
