    Slowed my machine to a crawl, ended up putting avast on instead. I had been running 7.5 with no probs before the upgrade.

    Just turn off the scheduled scanning ... or on custom setup choose not to have a daily scan.

    Runs fine for me.

    Darts right, AVG always wants to do a scan at start up and this can slow a pc to a crawl

    No I had AVG 7.5 and a lot of versions before that and all were fine, set to do a full system scan at 6pm while I am eating daily.
    V8 was set the same its just that it was so intrusive at other times that made me dump it in favour of Avast.

    computer shuts down

    My wife has avista antivirus for over a year. Her laptop keeps turning off completely. Its been like this for 2 months. Anybody have any idea why.
