Winsock Error 10055

I am getting the above error. The symtoms are after being on the internet for about 10~15 min I can't find any site. I use Mozilla Firefox and have tried it in Explorer same results. I called beelsouth and tthey said they could not help. It started after I used Adaware to remove some spyware. Is there anything I can do short of a re-format. I have some files that I don't want to lose
