Why does Windows Live Messenger sometimes have problems?
Sometimes, I am not able to log into my Windows Live Messenger for days or weeks at a time. Other people are not having this problem, but for the past 4 days or so, I haven't been able to log in. This has happened before, and it was for 2 weeks that time.
I keep getting error code 80072745 but that is totally unrelated according to the Windows Live Troubleshooting site (it talks about Windows Live Call and all I'm trying to do is sign in). And I reinstalled about 20 mins ago, but still keep having the same problem. I'm thinking it might have something to do with IP address? Since I tried going on it on my other computer (same network) and that doesn't work either. Any ideas? Last edited by karansaraf; Aug 20th, 07 at 9:53 PM. |

I can give you a long complicated explanation of why it don't work that neither of us will understand
~or~ I can just admit that I have not used windows live messenger and tell you that I wish you the best of luck with your problem. So the reason it's not working is...

What type of firewall(s) do you have? I have not had issues like this in the 5 years that I've used MSNM.

The only firewall I'm using at the moment is the firewall on my netgear router, but I've had that router for a while now and Messenger has been working normally most of that time.
One thing though, yesterday, when it wasn't working, I unplugged my router from my mains, replugged it again (so that I got a new IP address) and my Messenger started working instantly! No idea why or what the IP issue is, but there you go. But it's not working now. And if I have to make any changes to my router, then I'll have to reset it because I've forgotten my password and username. And I'll have to get my ISP information from my ISP before I can do that (because I need it after resetting the router apparently) because I don't know what that is either! Man, I'm so disorganised... |

Have you tried unlocking all of the ports that messenger uses? http://search.microsoft.com/results....essenger+ports

Well it has mysteriously started working again for the moment, but I have opened up said ports and hopefully this will prevent the problem from occuring again in the future!
