Vista compatibility issue
I built my grandmother a new computer, and installed windows vista ultimate on the system. Everything is fine exept for the built in sound on the motherboard.
The motherboard is a Biostar 945G micro 775 SE. I emailed their technical support who sent me a bios file and told me to update the bios to fix the problem. Only thing is when attempting to use the file I get the error bios id does not match. Looked for the latest bios myself to no avail. |

Have you tried downloading and installing drivers for the sound from Biostar's website?

I have, but it doesnt even detect a sound device as being there.

Go into the BIOS and make sure that the onboard sound is enabled.

Why does your grandma need ultimate? lol
Anyways, a lot of older motherboards don't have drivers for vista. Depending on what motherboard and how old it is, there may or may not ever be a driver update for vista. My Abit NF8 doesn't have any vista drivers for Nforce3. I'm not sure how much of a performance hit I am getting from that but I can tell you that all the other drivers are loading really slow on startup. I was expecting this from vista, give a few more months and see if there are any updates for you motherboard.

I checked the bios settings long ago. Only has 2 options disabled or auto obviously its on auto. The drivers are not the issue doesnt matter what driver you try if the device isnt being detected at all.

Just to update. I was sent the correct updated bios, which did not do any good. Seems vista is just not compatible with this built in sound card, so my gma is buying a sound blaster audigy.
THanks anyway |

Unfortunately, issues like this will continue to occur for the first year or two of the new OS's release. Thousands of manufacturer's updating cards that are no longer being produced so they can be vista compatible.
Also, the Audigy board sounds better than on-board sound anyways.
