Viewsonic VX724, no display

There are no words to describe how angry and depressed I am right now so I am going to make this as short and simple as possible.

My monitor is plugged in, the power light is green. When I plug the monitor into the DVI port, there is no signal at all. When I plug the monitor into the VGA port, it detects a signal and shows the display for half a second. Then it shuts off, re-detects the display, shows it for a brief second, and then shuts off again. This basically keeps repeating.

As for how the problem started, I was just typing my speech when all of the sudden, the monitor went blank and never came back.

I've tried a different monitor on my computer and it works fine. It is not a problem with my computer.

I have checked the viewsonic website and it's support site is HOPELESSLY useless. I can't even find a link to contact a real person or how to handle warranty services.

Can anyone give me a little insight before I throw my monitor out of the window of my apartment? Thanks.

Well....it seems that Viewsonic's support has been outsourced to India and the only online help is a questionnaire that doesn't accomplish anything. Needless to say, Viewsonic will be another company that I will be avoiding due to their support being outsourced.

Does anyone know how good the samsung monitors are?

I love my samsung, my mom has one and my brother in law uses one as well. A few friends have them and I've never heard anyone having trouble with them except myself.

My own problem was just a little driver issue ... windows kept reinstalling the default monitor driver instead. It eventually was worked out though.

Sorry I have no idea about the viewsonic!

Many Samsung monitors appear to be hit or miss lately, based on what I've read; the ones actually manufactured by Samsung are all right, but there are a number that were actually manufactured by another company, which are utter garbage.

Hmm, well I ended up buying a 19" widescreen Samsung 906BW. Loving it so far. The contrast and clarity is beautiful.

What do you mean by back light bleeding?

Typically backlight bleeding shows up when the image or video onscreen is dark or black, in the form of white "bleed-through," usually on the edges of the screen.

Ohhh I see. I just did a quick check and its hardly noticeable. Only if you really look for it. Its beautiful. I am going to run halo 2 on it to see how well it handles games.

edit:
It handles games very nicely but with the larger resolution, I can really feel the bottle neck that my Athlon 3200+ is creating for the x850pro. I've got a socket 754 motherboard so there's no real hope of doing a simple CPU swap either. Time for a new system....gotta do my research now haha. I have no idea what is in the market right now and what is good. I'm currently looking at the abit fatality motherboard and the AMD 6000+ AM2 as well as the X1950pro.

I heartily recommend the X1950 Pro. IMHO it's the absolute best non-DX10 card available, and at a great price.
