Video grief/Compaq laptop...
having a problem where the window/screen size is about half of normal... will not open to full size...
Compaq Armada 7790DMT, S3 video adapter, Win98SE... have downloaded latest driver from website, even formatted and reladed O/S... tried different monitor types but same result... at the flash screen the window will reduce to half size, 2 inch black border all sides... everything else seems normal... when loading O/S setup, I get full screen until it prepares to load files for setup, then it reduces in size and proceeds... any help/direction surely appreciated... Have you tried adjusting the resolution? Right click the desktop, go to 'Properties', then 'Settings', and adjust the resolution up.

thx for replying...
yes, I've done the normal stuff, it's like the monitor all of a sudden became the smaller size... everything "works", but only within the "box" that's been created... when you go to the display properties, and look at the resolution example, from 640X480, and then change to 800X600, the "box" gets smaller in the properties screen... that's what's happening... it's like my active window is layered over the desktop... and yes, I tried both viewing the desktop as a web page and then not, no difference... I spent quite a bit of time trying to redefine my desktop parameters, thinking that a registry key was incorrect... no luck so I finally said s---w it, and reloaded the O/S... to the point of repartitioning, formatting, and then putting a fresh 98SE on it... HD chks okay, I'm figuring my next step is chk video RAM, know any good programs to do this on an old 2Meg board?, as perhaps it has to do with the refresh process at higher Windows resolutions versus DOS... it is a little strange though, as I can get full screen if I'm in the setup process, but the minute it jumps to the flash screen the size reduces... I've researched into the Registry and I guess another question to pose is this: What are the processes, hopefully editable in the Registry, that happen B4 the flash screen appears on the display? probably going at this all wrong but that's why I'm asking the Gods for help... thanks again...
