What application can I use to take certain portions of a copy protected DVD and rip it to MPG? I need to do this for presentations that I'm running for a group.

Try DVD Decrypter and or Smart Ripper.

Nero showtime can rip certain portions of DVDs onto the hard drive for you, then you could use something like total video converter to convert the video file, or just use total video converter to rip the dvd itself

I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to back up my DVDs.
