Hiya, y'all. I'm going to start a project soon where I'm going to be copying my parents old Super 8 home movies to DVD. Anyways, I was fiddling with a projector that my mom said didn't work, and I just wanted to check and make sure. It seemed to run okay, and then I left the projector unattended for about a minute. Then, when I came back, I saw a red, shaking light on the screen, and I looked at the projector and realized that it had stopped moving.

Anyway, it was a bit of a job, but I finally did get the tape from the projector without it getting torn up. However, I noticed two damaged places on the film. One of them was the part that was starting to burn as I came back to the room. It is simply a red frame, but it is not bulging out or anything, so I am not really concerned about that. But the other frame is what I'm concerned about. It is gray and is bulging out. Because of it, I had trouble getting the film out of the projector (it was too big to fit come out of the slot easily). I am afraid that if I run that film through again on another projector, it will jam it up because of that big, gray, bulging spot.

How can I make this spot thinner so it will easily slide through, and is there anything else I should know?

Thanks

PS: Here's a link to a picture I took of the bulging frame so that you'll get a better understanding of the problem:

I have the answer, I just can't find it.

You could cut it out with an exacto knife (aka razor blade) just the grey spot, or split the film in half by cutting the frame out

Agreed, the easiest way would be to cut and splice the film and remove the bad spot. By the way, there are companies that offer transferring services that are very reasonable.

in the old days of video editing, it was always done by hand like this, i'd cut it out with a razor or something, good luck with it
