So it seems that my 9800pro has finally taken enough of my overclocking. If any of you remembered, I posted about a problem with the power connector not being detected as plugged in even though it was plugged in. Just last week, i discovered that the molex connector that connected to my 9800 was burnt. It was only a splitter so no harm was done. I used a good connector and the problem went away.

But tonight, I decided to update to the new omega drivers and play a little CS:S. I had some random freezing at first and then my computer had that power detection problem again. I pulled out the molex connector to find that it was perfectly fine but the socket on the 9800pro was not. One of the pins appeared to be burnt to a crisp.

So now, here I am, looking for a new AGP card. It must be AGP because I do not have money for a new system and I really need my computer right now. So I'll just get a moderately priced AGP card thats decent or accels in performance (nothing uberly good).

So here are my selections:

ATI Radeon X800 pro 256MB
ATI Radeon X850 pro 256MB
Sapphire Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB

I've done some comparisons but they are all about the same other than core and mem clocks. The x800 Pro is at the top because I can get it for $100 if it is in stock at compusa. my next option would be the X850, I can get that at newegg for $130. the x1600 is at the bottom of my list but i don't know much about it compared to the x800 and x850.

So what do you all think? What should I go with? Is there anything else that would be better thats below $130?

Thanks!

The only thing I know in a differnce between the X8xx and the X16xx is that the X8xx will produce more fps while the X16xx will have a better looking picture. For my X800 XT I can easily OC it to a X850 PE XT so it really just depends on what you want in the end. More FPS or better quality? Also, there is still no need for a graphics card of 512MB... well Doom3 on Ultra settings and better play in Oblivion.

Here's a little comparison:

(Card, Core Clock, Memory Clock)

X800 Pro, 475MHz, 950MHz
X850 Pro, 520Mhz, 1.08Ghz
X1600Pro, 500MHz, 780MHz

All three cards have 12 pixel pipelines. The only edge the X1600 has over the other two is that is has Shader Model 3.0 support (it's almost guaranteed you could overclock the X800 to X1600 core speeds, likely higher; the X800 series is very overclocker-friendly).

Since you're not looking to go PCI-e yet, I'd say go with the X800 Pro. Chances are you'll overclock it to X850 clocks, anyway.

I have an x850 256mb graphics card. I got it when it came out ( I wish i could of payed 130 for it) and I love it. On source without doing any fps tweaks I get 80 fps even in 33 tic servers. I have had no probs with it and ive had it for almost 2 years
